After ECAM 2018 - Letter from the President
Dear ESAM, the Aerospace Family of Europe, dear friends and colleagues around the world,
Recently, we concluded the ECAM 2018 conference in the beautiful city of Prague. As far as I can see, it was a great success, with over 350 registrations from 54 nations. The organizing committee led by Declan Maher has done an outstanding job, ensuring a smooth running congress in a lovely venue, topped by the Gala dinner and afterparty which was indeed something else! We must of course mention our Czech local organisers of the Czech Society of Aviation Medicine and the Czech institute of Aviation medicine – thank you for your kind hospitality and support for making the congress a success!
The Aerospace Medical Association, a partner for the second time for our ECAM congress, has been an enormous help, cementing our very close relationship with AsMa. The Scientific committee lead by our now newest Chevalier of ESAM, Ries Simons, had put together a varied programme of civilian, military and of course space medicine making ECAM 6 a very high quality conference not only of content, but also how content was put together intelligently in well-designed sessions and panels.
As in earlier conferences, we have presented 2 awards one for the best abstract presentation and another for the best poster. The winners this year were:
· Paolo Tosco Award for the Best Abstract Presentation to Dr. John Pitts for the presentation “The interpretation of simulator test results in medical decision making.”
· The best Poster award to Dr. Jayashri Devi Sharma for her poster “Developmental Postures and Adaptations for Microgravity; Performance in Water, and Aero-Sports, for Aerospace”
I would like to conclude by congratulating the 2 award winners and by thanking you to all, including attendees and those providing scientific papers and posters which are the core of the conference, for giving us your support and making 6th ECAM a great scientific event in aerospace medicine. Maybe above all, the culture and friendship of ESAM gave also this year a special flair to the 6th European Conference of Aerospace medicine– making us all look forward to next one taking place in Paris in September 2020. Au Revoir!
