In memory of Dr. Annette Ruge
End of January 2019 we received the sad news that Dr. Annette Ruge, our colleague for many, many years had passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Most of us in the aero-medical community have been in close contact with her as a competent colleague, aero-medical specialist and member of the executive board of the German Society of Aerospace Medicine.
She gave many impulses due to her direct way of conduct. During her long years in the department of aviation medicine of the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt - the German CAA - she earned great respect due to her constructive way of communication. Subsequently, she held a position as Assistent to the Licensing Director of the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) and Secretary of the Medical Subcommittee, later rechristened as Licensing Subsectorial Team (Medical).
She participated directly in the drafting of the common European aero-medical provisions. Then she changed to a position as head of the Aviation Health Unit of the CAA UK to Great Britain and subsequently to a position in the administration of the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt in Braunschweig. Her professional career culminated in a position as aero-medical specialist in the Directorate Rulemaking of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in Cologne. There she was the first medical specialist and the most important person in the transcription of the provisions of JAR-FCL 3 into EASA Implementing Rules of Regulation 1178/2011 and the implementation of the relevant provisions throughout Europe.
Most of us remember her lively presentations to familiarize us with those often cumbersome regulations and their pitfalls. In the past years predominantly the aero-medical examiners for Class III met her as Medical Assessor of the Bundesaufsichtsamt für Flugsicherheit, the German Competent Authority for the Regulation of Air Traffic Controllers. We all will miss her kind and professional way. With grief we express our condolences to her family and relatives.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, 8 February, 15:00 in the Dachsalon of the Flora in Cologne. (Am Botanischen Garten 1a, 50735 Köln) The Family has asked that no flowers or wreaths are sent.
Those wishing to send the family a message of condolences can contact: Nina Ruge c/o Pütz & Roth, Kürtener Strasse 10, 51465 Bergisch Gladbach
