News from the president
Dear friends and colleagues,
2010 has been a very busy year for ESAM and 2011 promises to be the same !
ESAM got a new membership from the Danish Society of aerospace medicine, and we have elected a new Executive Committee at out General Assembly in November, after our 2th ECAM Congress hosted by the Greek Society.
During the year 2010 we have been very actively involved in the review group for the EASA NPA about medical certification of flight crew, and contributed to a heavily changed and (not ideal but) more acceptable regulation for the LAPL medicals. The final EASA Opinion is now at the EU Commission and later EU Parliament, who can still make some (politically inspired) changes. At the same time ESAM is involved in the 3 EASA safety working groups for Commercial and General Aviation and Helicopters and are represented in EASA’s medical advisory group to Rulemaking. ESAM’s Advisory Board produces scientific comment on the proposals of EASA on flight time limitations, and prepares a position paper on the use of insulin for pilots.
ESAM is also active on the global scene : at the AsMA congress in Anchorage this year we will hold our yearly meeting on 11 May, and a common Congress in Europe around 2016 is discussed between the governing bodies of both organisations! Our General Assembly will be held in conjunction with the ICASM Congress in September in Bucharest.
On short notice, we will propose you some small changes to the Statutes, in order to assure both continuity and renovation in the leading positions of our rapidly grown Society !
We hope to see you soon during on of the meetings this year, and trust on your support for ESAM as the pan-European professional’s scientific voice and representative Society in aerospace medicine matters !
Amicaliter, Roland
