On behalf of the Executive Committee, I am honored to invite you to attend the forthcoming General Assembly of the European Society of Aerospace Medicine. The meeting will take place on Thursday, 13th November 2025, from 17:30 to 19:00 CET, at the EASA Headquarters in Cologne, Germany, and will be conducted in hybrid format (in-person and online) to ensure the widest possible participation.

The Diabetes project explores new diagnostic tools, treatments, and technologies such as continuous glucose monitors and automated insulin pumps. It addresses challenges like assessing hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia risks in pilots and ATCOs, alongside the reliability of these devices in the aviation environment.
Prof. Jochen Hinkelbein has been a highly esteemed clinician in emergency medicine and anaesthesia and a high-ranked researcher in his specialties. He had a passionate interest in aerospace medicine and he and his team have published a large number of publications in aviation and space medicine, particularly related to the management of in-flight emergencies in aircraft and space operations. From 2018 to 2024, he chaired the ESAM Space Medicine Group. He was Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association (FAsMA) and Fellow of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (FESAIC).
It is with deep sadness that we announce the tragic passing of our esteemed ESAM President, Prof. Dr. Jochen Hinkelbein. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working with him. He will be deeply missed.
ESAM Academy congratulates Prof. Dr. Claudia Stern, member ofthe ESAM Advisory Board, for receiving an Honorary Professorship from the Technical University of Braunschweig for outstanding research and teaching in aerospace medicine!

As you may know this year we elect the Executive Committee for the coming 2 years, according to the statutes:
“Every two years the GA shall elect two deputies (First and Second Vice- Presidents), a Secretary-General, a Treasurer, a Director of Communication, and a Director without portfolio, to constitute the EC. These shall be elected for a period of two years. Any officer may seek re-election after a two-year term, but no member shall serve for more than six years except in exceptional circumstances, and as agreed by the General Assembly.”

Let me take advantage of the approaching 2024 Summer Holidays to wish you a relaxing and enjoyfull time. Since my last news letter the Executive Committee and Advisory Board met in June 2023 in Lisbon, in December 2023 and March 2024 at Eurocontrol, Brussels.

ESAM, the representatives of EASA-MeSafe project and EPPSI have supported the Civil Aviation Authority of the Republic of Moldova in the organization of the Workshop on Mental Fitness of Aviation Personnel. This event was held on September 28-30, 2023, in Chisinau, Moldova.
